“As your representative in Congress, I believe quality healthcare is an essential aspect of human dignity. I am proud to have passed legislation to improve mental health and support policies that put patients and their needs first.” – María Elvira Salazar
Here are some of my key accomplishments:
Secured $7.65 Million for Mt. Sinai Medical Hospital: Enhanced the hospital’s ability to serve vulnerable populations during disasters by funding resiliency improvements to protect against storm surge, flooding, and other severe weather impacts.
$2.5 Million for Banyan Community Health Center Expansion: Expanded healthcare services at the Little Havana Campus, providing comprehensive care to over 20,000 underserved patients annually.
$1 Million for Nicklaus Children’s Mental Health Facility Expansion: Doubled the capacity of the pediatric mental health facility to address the growing needs of children requiring mental health services.
My RECLAIM Taxpayer Funds Act was Implemented by SBA: This legislation recovers billions from fraudulent government loans, ensuring fiscal responsibility and addressing misuse of COVID-19 relief funds. By reclaiming these funds, we are also working to help reduce inflation across the country.
$450,000 for Nicklaus Children’s Pharmacogenomic Testing Program: Funded the creation of a program to reduce adverse drug reactions in pediatric patients by using genetic testing to tailor treatments.
Leader on Mental Health Treatment: Co-introduced and passed the Summer Barrow Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Act, funding mental health services, overdose prevention, and more, signed into law in December 2022.
Supported the Give Kids a Chance Act of 2023: Authorized the FDA to study pediatric cancer treatments, improving care for children with cancer.
Secured Humanitarian Parole for Children Needing Medical Treatment: Facilitated advanced humanitarian parole for children of many constituents with serious illnesses from communist regimes, enabling them to receive life-saving treatment in Miami.
Improving Global Health Outcomes for Mothers and Infants: Lead efforts to pass the End Tuberculosis Now Act and support increased funding for child malnutrition, maternal health, and combating malaria and AIDS.
Introduced Legislation to Expand Home Infusions for Medicare Patients with Rare Genetic Disease: Introduced the John W. Walsh Alpha-1 Home Infusion Act. This bill will allow Medicare beneficiaries with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency to receive essential treatments at home, reducing healthcare costs and enhancing their quality of life.
