SALAZAR FOR CONGRESS LAUNCHES SECOND AD HIGHLIGHTING TAKE IT DOWN ACT AND HER RECORD PROTECTING FAMILIES IN THE AI ERA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 23th, 2026

MIAMI, FL — Salazar for Congress today released its second general election advertisement, highlighting Rep. María Elvira Salazar’s work to protect children and families from new threats created by artificial intelligence.

When artificial intelligence made it easier for predators to create and spread sexually explicit fake images without a victim’s consent, Salazar authored and introduced the TAKE IT DOWN Act in the House and led the effort to get it passed.

President Donald Trump signed the bipartisan legislation into law on May 19, 2025.

“One of my proudest moments as a Congresswoman was passing the TAKE IT DOWN Act,” Salazar says in the new ad. “It forces Big Tech to remove fake online sexual images, mostly targeting teenage girls. It also gives parents the legal tools to hold predators accountable. The safety of our kids is everything.”

The TAKE IT DOWN Act created new federal protections against nonconsensual intimate images, including realistic AI-generated sexual deepfakes. The law establishes criminal penalties for offenders and requires covered online platforms to remove qualifying content within 48 hours after receiving a valid request.

The law is already being enforced. In April 2026, the Department of Justice secured the first conviction under the TAKE IT DOWN Act in a case involving AI-generated sexually explicit images of women and minors.

“As a mother, there is nothing more important than protecting our children,” Salazar said. “AI is changing our world at extraordinary speed, and our laws have to keep up. I saw a new danger facing families, I wrote the legislation, we got it passed, and now it is the law of the land. That is the kind of result families should expect from Washington.”

Background:

Rep. Salazar’s work to pass the TAKE IT DOWN Act reflects a larger priority throughout her time in Congress: protecting families, supporting law enforcement, and giving public safety officials the resources they need to keep our communities safe.

Since joining Congress in 2021, Rep. Salazar has made supporting law enforcement and keeping Miami-Dade families safe a top priority. She has secured more than $7 million for public safety initiatives, including funding to modernize technology for the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, purchase new patrol vehicles for the City of Miami Police Department, and support the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Violence Reduction Initiative to combat gun violence and remove illegal firearms from our streets.

Because of her strong record of standing with law enforcement, Rep. Salazar has earned the support of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association, the Fraternal Order of Police District 6, the Hispanic Police Officers Association, and the Police Officers Defense Coalition.
